Andrzej Bek

Andrzej Bek ( born June 26, 1951 in Łódź ) is a Polish former racing cyclist and current cycling coach.

Andrzej Bek was a specialist for short-term events on the track. Six times he was Polish champion in various disciplines. In 1970 he was third in the Polish Championship in the sprint, 1972 and 1974, he finished each place.

In 1972 Bek at the Olympic Games in Munich with Benedykt Kocot in tandem race. The Polish duo won the bronze medal. In the UCI Track World Championships in 1974, he finished with Kocot in tandem race in third place.

1978 Andrzej Bek went to the United States, where he competed as a professional racing. He then worked in the U.S. until 1996 as coach of the U.S. track cycling team and has coached among others Marty Nothstein and Erin Hartwell. He was also the team captain at the Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. Starting in 2002, he coached the Paralympic cycling team, especially the blind driver. In 2003 he worked for the Saturn Cycling Team, but returned subsequently returned as a coach to the U.S. federation.

Andrzej Bek is the son of multiples Polish sprint champion Jerzy Bek, whose father Alfons already went cycling race. He has a degree in mechanical engineering. He is married to the former basketball national team Lucyna Kaluzna and lives in the USA.
