Andy Powell ( born August 23, 1981 in Brecon ) is a Welsh rugby union player. He plays as number eight for the Welsh national team and the London Wasps.

Career

Powell began his career at Newport RFC, which he left after introduction of regional selections. He moved to France for AS Béziers, where, however, he only remained a short time. It was followed by a season at the Leicester Tigers, but where he ran aground only once. After a season with the Scarlets, he moved to his present club.

Powell gathered his first experiences as a player for the National Under-21 team and the reserve Wales A. He made his debut for the Men's National Team he was in autumn 2008 against South Africa and was immediately determined to player of the game. In the other November internationals he showed his strengths and belongs consequently also for the Welsh squad for the Six Nations 2009. He also succeeded in 2009, winning the EDF Energy Cup with the Blues. In April 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa, but did not play.

In the season 2010/11 towards Powell moved from the blues to the London Wasps.
