Windflower (Anemone blanda )

The Windflower (Anemone blanda, Anemone Syn apennina subsp. Blanda (Schott et Kotschy ) Nyman ) is a plant of the genus Anemone (Anemone ) in the family of the buttercup family ( Ranunculaceae ).

Features

The Windflower is a perennial plant with a bulbous rhizome, reaches the heights of growth 7-25 centimeters. The underside of the leaf blade is bald or nearly bald. The flower stem is hairy, more or less projecting long. The 12 to 15 bracts are bald and blue, mauve, white or colored pink. The collecting fruits are nodding.

Bloom time is from March to April.

Occurrence

The Windflower comes in the Balkans, in Cyprus, in western Syria, Turkey and the Caucasus in coniferous forests, thickets and rocky meadows at altitudes 150-1700 meters in front. In Germany the species is wild.

Use

The Windflower is scattered used as an ornamental plant for groups of trees and rock gardens and in culture at least since 1898. There are some varieties (selection):

  • ' Blue Shades ': The flowers are blue.
  • ' Bridesmaid ': The flowers are white.
  • ' Charmer ': The flowers are dark pink.
  • ' Ingramii ' ( ' Atrocoerulea '): The flowers are deep blue-violet.
  • 'Pink Star': The flowers are pale pink.
  • 'Radar': The flowers are crimson, its middle is white.
  • 'Rosea': The flowers are pink.
  • 'Violet Star': The flowers are pale violet, its center is bright
