Description

The Crown Anemone is a perennial plant, the plant height 8-25 ( rarely to 30 ) reaches centimeters. Your outlasting are bulbous or short cylindrical. The basal leaves are in three pieces, the sections are stalked and with two slots. The stem leaves are broad at the base and cut irregularly. The flowers have a diameter of 3 to 8 ( rarely to 10) cm. The usually 5-8 petals are hand silk -haired, scarlet, blue, purple, pink or rarely white. The anthers are blue or purple. Flower color, leaf cutting, flower size and phenology are highly variable.

The flowering period extends from December to May

The Crown Anemone is native to the Mediterranean. It grows on rocky corridors, Garriguen, meadows, fallow fields, and in vineyards and olive groves at altitudes 0-700 meters (rarely to 1200 meters).

Use

The Crown Anemone is rarely used as an ornamental plant for alpine houses, pot culture in cold boxes, rock gardens in areas with mild winters as well as a cut flower. The species is in cultivation since 1596. The cultivated forms are very variable in leaf shape, flower size and flower color. There are numerous varieties with single flowers (eg ' De Caen' hybrids ), semi-double flowers (eg St. Birgit' hybrids ) and double flowers.
