Aneto

The Pico de Aneto is at an altitude of 3404 m the highest mountain in the Pyrenees, the third highest in Spain ( after the Teide in Tenerife and the Mulhacen in Andalusia ) and the highest of Aragón. It is located in the Spanish province of Huesca, in northern Aragon. It forms the southern part of the Maladeta massif. Its French name is outdated Nethou.

Rise

Starting point for the normal route to climb the Aneto is the Refugio de la Renclusa ( 2140 m). From there, the path to the glacier ( crampons and ice ax required) goes above Portillón Superior and then reach the summit via the north edge ( rise time about 5-6 hours). Shortly before the summit is a short rocky passage, the bridge of Mohammed. There is a narrow passage in the ridge large rocks which is exposed on both sides. From the summit, the view opens to the north to snowy Maladeta, south on the dry plateaus of Aragón.

First ascent

On July 18, 1842 in Bagneres- de -Luchon residing former Russian officer Plato de Tchihatcheff left ( Чихачёв, Tschichatschow ) accompanied by its leaders Sanio Pierre de Luz and the Luchonaisern Arrazau Bernard and Pierre Redonnet and the botanist Albert de Franqueville with his leader Jean Sors the French resort of Bagneres- de -Luchon. From the Hospice de France they wandered over the Port de Vénasque ( 2450 m) to the Maladeta massif, where they bivouacked in the simple shelter of Renclusa. Today, in the years 1998 to 1999 greatly expanded and modernized Refugio de la Renclusa is ( 2140 m) at this point.

The following day they crossed the Col de Alba and went down to Ibón de Cregüeña ( 2660 m), where they lost their way in the southern hike around the lake. Towards evening they found after a further pass crossing quarters in a Cabane ( shepherd's hut ) in the valley of Valhibierna.

At sunrise the next day, the group went up to the Collado de Coronas up ( 3196 m). Despite their fear of crevasses, they decided to climb over the Aneto Glacier. After them, the rise had caused trouble again over the narrow ridge just before the summit for a short distance ( Albert de Franqueville christened this place bridge of Mohammed ), they arrived on the morning of July 20, 1842 the highest peaks of the Pyrenees. There, they left behind a bottle with her ​​name.

First winter ascent
