Angela Harris, Baroness Harris of Richmond

Angela Felicity Harris, Baroness Harris of Richmond DL ( born January 4, 1944) is a Life Peer and deputy Speakerin in the House of Lords.

The daughter of Reverend George Hamilton Richards and Eva born Lindley went to the Ealing Hotel and Catering College. She first worked as a flight attendant and then went to the local government. After they had moved to Richmond ( North Yorkshire ), she was elected to the City Council and the Regional Council of Richmondshire, where he was President of the Council and Mayor. In 1981 she was elected to the Regional Council of North Yorkshire.

Angela Harris belonged to the North Yorkshire County Council in 1981-2001 and in 1991 /92, the first woman as chairperson of this committee. She was further from 1994 to 2001 the chairman of the North Yorkshire Police Authority and a member of other Police Authorities. For 16 years, from 1982 to 1998 she was Arbiter. From 1990 to 1997 she was on the management committee of the National Health Service. In 1994 she was Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire and from 1996 it belonged to the management committee of the University of York.

Angela Harris was the Liberal Democrat candidate for the European elections in 1999.

During her time in the House of Lords she was Chair of the European Union Select sub- Committee and member of the European Union F Select Committee and the Offices Committee and Refreshment Sub - Committee. 2009 Harris was appointed High Steward of Ripon Cathedral in Ripon.

In 1976 she married her second husband John Philip Roger Harris. She has a son from her first marriage.
