Angelo Reyes

Angelo Tomas Reyes ( born March 17, 1945 in San Miguel, Manila, † February 8, 2011 in Quezon City ) was a Filipino general and politician.

Biography

After visiting the Cubao High School, he joined as a soldier in the Armed Forces ( Armed Forces of the Philippines, AFP ), and was a graduate of the Military Academy ( Philippine Military Academy PMA), which he in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. ) graduated. During his military career, he subsequently completed further post-graduate studies in Business Administration at the Asian Institute of Management, where he graduated in 1973 with a Masters in Business Administration ( MBA). In 1991 he finished a further postgraduate studies in Public Administration from Harvard University with a Master in Public Administration.

Within the armed forces, he rose in 1998 to the Chief of Staff (Chief of Staff ) of the AFP and has held thus until his passing on March 17, 2001 to the highest military post in the army.

Subsequently, he was ( Secretary of National Defense) appointed by President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo on 19 March 2001 as Minister of Defence and at the same time as Chairman of the Coordination Council for National Disaster ( National Disaster Coordinating Council ). With the appointment of the President praised ultimately the attitude of Reyes during EDSA II rebellion, which led to the ousting of President Joseph Estrada, and during which Reyes had placed at the head of the military to side with the enemy Estrada.

After retiring from the Cabinet as Secretary of Defense on 19 August 2003 he was on October 26, 2003 Adviser to the President on kidnapping cases as well as Chairman of the National Anti - Kidnapping Task Force ( NAKTF ). In addition, he was also on 10 March 2004 Advisor to the President in action against smuggling and head of the National Anti- Smuggling Task Force.

On 12 July 2004 he returned to the Cabinet Macapagal- Arroyo and became Minister of the Interior and Local Government ( Secretary of Interior and Local Government ). In a cabinet reshuffle in 2006 he became Minister of Environment and Natural Resources ( Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources).

Since a further reshuffle in 2007 he was Secretary of Energy ( Secretary of Energy) in the Cabinet Macapagal- Arroyo.

Reyes was married and had five children.
