Angmendus

Angmendus (also Augmendus, Agendus ) ( † after 605) to have been in Aethelberht King of Kent, the first Lord Chancellor ( 605).

Life

He is said to have been one of the monks of probably of Italian origin, the Christianized along with Augustine of Canterbury from 596 England. He is said to have recorded the laws of the country.

Except his name is Angmendus little known. From when it has given the Office, is controversial. The official list of the Office called Angmendus as first known incumbent. Also, James Mackay, Baron Mackay of Clashfern a similar argument. Most historians assume, however, that the office was created in the 11th century.
