Angolan genet

Angola - genet ( Genetta angolensis )

The Angolan genet ( Genetta angolensis ) is one of 14 species of genets within the civets. It is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa.

Features

The Angolan genet has a slim body with a small head. It is about big cats with a body weight of one to two kilograms. The coat is to dark to reddish gray ground covered with numerous black spots, which move to the neck and back in a stripe pattern of five parallel lines on each side of the body. The speckle pattern can continue up to the legs, the belly is bright and unspotted. Along the spine there is an approximately 6 inches high comb which is hairy tight in this type than in other genets. The tail is curled bright and black.

Dissemination

The Angolan genet is widespread in parts of Africa south of the Sahara. The distribution area includes parts of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia. As the northernmost locality Turu is assumed in Tanzania. It inhabits areas where miombo, one dominated by Brachystegia grasslands with loose trees, with savannas is mixed.
