Angolan legislative election, 1980

The elections to the National Assembly of Angola in 1980 were sham elections. On the ballots were only the candidates, the only legal party in the then one-party state in Angola, the Marxist -Leninist state party, Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola ( MPLA ).

In September 1980, the new president, José Eduardo dos Santos was made ​​possible by a constitutional amendment elections to the National People's Assembly. A system of indirect elections and candidates by finding committee ensured that only the state party agreeable candidates were selected.
