Angus Konstam

Angus Konstam ( born January 2, 1960 in Aberdeen) is a Scottish author and historian.

Life

Angus Konstam, son of Sheila and Peter Konstam, spent his childhood in the Orkney Islands. In 1978 he left the islands and joined the Royal Navy. He received a scholarship to the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. A study of history at the University of Aberdeen joined to this study. After he had completed this successfully, he returned to the Royal Navy and drove for a year at sea. During this time he gained experience not only in military but also in the field of customs and habits of sailors and navigation. On his return he took up the master stage at the University of St Andrews. During this study Konstam first came into contact with underwater archeology.

Career

England

After completing his studies Konstam From 1985 during an excavation on the Thames near the Tower of London. Due to an exchange of exhibits between the Tower and the Kremlin Konstam had the opportunity to the Russian military history of the 18th century to study. In the course of which he met a historian who an author for a book about the army of Peter the Great sought on behalf of the publisher Osprey Publishing. Konstam was commissioned and published in 1993 as two books on the subject.

United States

Konstam moved in 1995 to Key West, Florida for the post of Chief Curator of the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum to accept. His duties included, among other things, the construction of a traveling exhibition. In addition, the work sparked his interest in the history of piracy of the 18th century. During his six years as curator of the museum, he has authored numerous books, including The History of Pirates (2002), which sold over 70,000 copies.

Current work

After his return to the UK in 2001 he moved to Edinburgh where he still lives today. In his work as an author, the 16th and 17th centuries are the focus. Konstam is a member of the Society of Authors.
