Anita Shreve

Anita Shreve ( born 1946 ) is an American writer.

The daughter of a pilot and a homemaker completed the Dedham High School and studied at Tufts University. She began writing while she was working as a teacher in Reading, Massachusetts.

One of her first published stories was Past the Iceland, Drifting (published in 1975 ) for which she was awarded the O. Henry Prize in 1976.

Among other jobs Shreve worked for three years as a journalist in Nairobi, Kenya. In the 1990s, she taught creative writing at Amherst College. The novel The Pilot 's Wife was presented in March 1999 in Oprah 's Book Club Book of the Month. Since that time, the novels of Shreve were sold in millions

The novel Resistance was filmed under the same title in 2003, starring Bill Paxton and Julia Ormond.

Shreve lives in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
