Anjou-Legendarium

The Anjou Legendarium is a gothic illuminated manuscript from the early 14th century. It is a collection of saints stories that were for the house of Anjou of great importance.

Details

The Legendarium is an imaginary children's picture book, in which short texts describing the scenes depicted in the image. The images painter of this work of art came from Bologna and recorded it in the style of the Trecento. It was produced for the first time three years Andrew of Hungary, and it includes an advanced version of the Legenda Aurea - the life of the Hungarian and Polish saints.

Today's state

The main part of the manuscript is in the Vatican Library ( Vat Lat 8541 ), twenty sheets in the Morgan Library and five leaves in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.
