Ankole-Watusi

The Watussirind or Ankolerind is a domestic cattle breed in East Africa. It originated from the crossing of the ancient Egyptian longhorn cattle with humps cattle, also called zebu.

Their traditional breeders are living in Rwanda and Burundi Tutsi.

These cattle were and are part of the cash, its value increases with the size of the horns. It spans of 200 cm and horn circumferences of 50 cm are not uncommon. In the Guinness Book of World Records is Lurch, a Watussiochse with a horn circumference of 95.25 cm (measured on 6 May 2003 ).

Watusi cattle are not traditionally slaughtered, they are mainly milked and bled. The blood is then mixed with a milk drink.

This 5000 year old breed of cattle had only one selection feature, namely oversized horns, so there Watusi cattle in all possible color variations - monochrome, multicolored, spotted or speckled - and sizes. They belong to the African humpback cattle.
