Ann Bannon

Ann Bannon ( born September 15, 1932 in Joliet, Illinois as Ann Weldy ) is an American author and high school teacher.

Life

Bannon was born in 1932 in Joliet, Illinois. She grew up in Hinsdale on with her mother and her stepfather. Bannon attended the University of Illinois, where she studied Romance languages ​​. Bannon wrote from 1957 to 1962 as the author of six novels with lesbian characters, who became known as The Beebo Brinkler Chronicles. In 1962, she ended her literary activity. Bannon started again at the Sacramento State University study, reaching at Stanford University Ph.D. in linguistics. It was high school teacher of English at Sacramento State University.

Bannon married in 1954. She was married 27 years and divorced in the 1980s by her husband.

In the Canadian documentary Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives 1992 the works of Bannon were taken up again where life lesbian women in North America was represented 1940-1960. Likewise, their works in the Before Stonewall documentation mentioned in 1984.

The works of Bannon have been reprinted in 2001. Bannon has received various awards for her pioneering work in LGBT literature.
