Ann E. Dunwoody

Ann E. Dunwoody (* 1953 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia ) is a retired general of the U.S. Army. From 14 November 2008 to 28 June 2012, she served as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command; she was the first woman in the history of the U.S. armed forces, who held the rank of four- star general.

Life

Ann Dunwoody was the daughter of Elizabeth and Harold H. Dunwoody. As her father was an officer in the U.S. Army, she lived with her family including Belgium and Germany. She graduated in 1969 from the SHAPE American High School.

After graduating as a sports teacher at the State University of New York at Cortland in 1975, she appeared as a Second Lieutenant in the Women's Army Corps. It was first used as a platoon leader in the 226th Maintenance Company, 100th Supply and Services Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During her they commanded over thirty years of service as an officer in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army 226th Maintenance Company, inter alia, in Fort Sill; the 5th Quartermaster Detachment ( Airborne ) in Kaiserslautern; the 407th Supply and Service Battalion/782d Main Support Battalion (MSB ) in Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the 10th Mountain Division Support Command ( DISCOM ) Fort Drum, New York; the 1st Corps Support Command (1st COSCOM ) at Fort Bragg; the Military Traffic Management Command ( MTMC ) / Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command ( SDDC ) in Alexandria, Virginia, and the Combined Arms Support Command ( CASCOM ) at Fort Lee, Virginia.

From May 1989 to May 1991 served Dunwoody as Executive Officer and later as division paratrooper officer for the 407th Supply and Transportation Battalion, of Fort Bragg. U.S. 82nd Airborne Division She was transferred to Saudi Arabia and there took part in Operation Desert Shield / Operation Desert Storm. As commander of the 1st Corps Support Command, it moved in 2001 with the Logistics Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Uzbekistan.

In 1988, she obtained a Master of Science in Logistics Management at Florida Institute of Technology. In addition, she received the 1995 Master of Science in National Resource Strategy at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Dunwoody is married to the U.S. Air Force Colonel Craig Brotchie retired.
