Anna Kanakis

Anna Maria Kanakis ( born 1 February 1962 in Messina, Messina ) is an Italian film actress and politician.

Life

Anna Kanakis was born as the daughter of an Italian mother and a Greek father. At the age of 15 she was elected in 1977 not only to Miss volcano - a title that has been created in allusion to Mount Etna - but also crowned Miss Italy. The title was later stripped of her but because of their immaturity. In 1981 she represented Italy at the Miss Universe contest. A year later, she met the older by ten years musician Claudio Simonetti and married him. She moved with him to Rome, where she has lived since that time; the marriage was divorced in 1984. She is married since 2004 with the banker Marco Merati Foscarini, who was then President of the Swiss bank BSI SA. Her husband is a direct descendant of Marco Foscarini, the last Doge of Venice.

Anna Kanakis, which gave 1980 her debut as an actress in the film Bello di mamma, was the Italian national borders hardly known. In 1991, she appeared in the miniseries The young Katharina front of the camera, the 2006 The end of the gods followed in which she portrayed Claudia Procula. Overall, she seemed so far with around 30 feature films and miniseries.

Kanakis was also politically active in Italy. 1979-1980 she was Women's Officer on the staff of President Francesco Cossiga. 1998-2000 she sat as Secretary of State in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Massimo D' Alema.
