Anna of Brandenburg, Duchess of Mecklenburg

Anna von Brandenburg (* January 1, 1507, † June 19, 1567 in Lübz ) was a princess of Brandenburg and by marriage Duchess of Mecklenburg.

Life

Anna was the eldest daughter of the Elector Joachim I of Brandenburg (1484-1535) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1485-1555), daughter of King John of Denmark.

They married on January 17, 1524 in Berlin, Duke Albrecht VII of Mecklenburg ( 1486-1547 ). Against her dowry of 20,000 florins Anna Office and City Lübz and the Office Crivitz had been overwritten as jointure. Anna was described as unhappy and bitter. She turned away from Lutheranism again to be Catholic. While they had not developed any attachment to their elders, they gave all their affection the two youngest sons.

After her husband's death, Anna lived on the Eldenburg in her widow's residence Lübz, which had not joined the only part of the country of the Lutheran Reformation. In 1559 all Catholic priests and monks were here, despite the religion of his mother, by Duke Johann Albrecht evicted. Anna was buried against her will in Schwerin Cathedral. For his lifetime she had set her funeral in the town church of their Wittums. In her will, dated March 25, 1557, she wished to be buried according to the Catholic rite, by also may celebrate the Thirtieth both the seventh as.
