Annalista Saxo

The Anna Lista Saxo is the anonymous author of a major chronicle kingdom that originated in Nienburg monastery in Anhalt. He is often identified with Arnold, abbot of the monasteries and mountains Nienburg.

General

The Chronicle of Anna Lista Saxo is a collection of data and facts about the medieval German kings and their Carolingian predecessors and contemporary events, beginning with the year 741 and continued until 1139th

The book was written in the years 1148-1152. The anonymous author were well over 100 handwritten ancient sources available that no longer exist in part today. The entries are arranged chronologically by year.

The identity of the chronicler, probably a Nienburger monk, is still unclear. The volume comprises 237 parchment pages. The cover is from the 16th century. In 1993 the book was restored. The book cover is bound in brown calf leather, the spine in sheepskin. 16 jewelry letters decorate the interior of the book.

The original of the Chronicle of Anna Lista Saxo is now in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. It is highly sensitive and is therefore kept under wraps. A copy will be issued. As the book was sent to France is so far unknown.
