Annals of Inisfallen

The Annals of Inisfallen (Irish Inis Annala Faithleann, English Annals of Inisfallen ) are the oldest surviving medieval Chronicle of Ireland. They are written in Irish and Latin, and consist of an undated part, which describes the time before Patrick, and a second part with annual figures covering the period 433-1450.

It is assumed that most of the entries from before the 10th century left over from the no longer receive annals has been copied end of the 10th century in the Abbey of Clonmacnoise Emly, with cuts and distortions did not fail. The chronicle was then continued in Toomgraney, copied mid-11th century in Killaloe and transferred to 1119 to Lismore, where she continued. With the beginning of the 12th century, the chronicle was maintained in Inisfallen monastery on the homonymous island in Killarney.

The only still standing today manuscript is in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. It is believed that it originated in Inisfallen during the 12th to 15th century. It is missing the entries for the years 1131-1158, 1215 and 1286-1294.
