Anne of Austria, Landgravine of Thuringia

Anne of Austria (* April 12, 1432 in Vienna, † November 13, 1462 in Eckartsberga ) was an Austrian princess and by marriage Duchess of Saxony, Landgrave of Thuringia, and Duchess of Luxembourg.

Life

Anna was the eldest child of the Roman-German King Albrecht II (1397-1439) from his marriage to Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia and Hungary (ca. 1409-1442 ), daughter of Emperor Sigismund.

On June 20, 1446 Anna married as a 14 -year-old Jena Duke William III. of Saxony ( 1425-1482 ). Although Anna renounced Austria, specifically but not on Bohemia, Hungary and other countries Albrecht II His mother transferred Wilhelm their rights in the Duchy of Luxembourg, which he had occupied since 1441, but was expelled by the Duke of Burgundy again. The claims on Bohemia, he had to cede to Georg von Podiebrad. After the death of Anna's brother Ladislaus Postumus in 1457 called himself William Duke of Luxembourg.

Wilhelm repudiated by Anna unhappy marriage and turned to his mistress Katharina von Brandenstein to. Anna was kept until her death on the Eckartsburg. Once she tried to return to her husband, who is said to have thrown her but to welcome a wooden shoe in the face and sent her back again immediately.

Shortly after Anna's death in July 1463 Wilhelm married Katharina von Brandenstein. Anna was buried in Reinhardsbrunn monastery.
