Annecy Cathedral

The Cathedral of Annecy ( Cathédrale Saint- Pierre d' Annecy ) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the French town of Annecy and seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Annecy.

Architecture

The cathedral was built in the early 16th century by Jacques Rossel as a Franciscan monastery church. During the French Revolution, the church was used as a temple of the goddess of reason. When in 1822 the diocese was created from the diocese of Annecy Chambery, the late-Gothic church was elevated to the status of a cathedral.

Equipment

The Cathedral hosts numerous baroque art and a remarkable organ, which was built in the years 1840-1842 from the royal court organ builder Nicolas- Antoine Lété. The organ case in the style of Louis XIV was created by the brothers Gilardi from Annecy. The instrument was restored several times, reconstructed and expanded. Today it has 32 ​​registers on three manuals and pedal (about 2,000 pipes ).
