Annie Funk

Annie Clemmer Funk ( born April 12, 1874 in Bally, Pennsylvania, USA, † April 15, 1912 in the North Atlantic during the sinking of the Titanic ) was an American missionary.

Life

Annie radio was the daughter of James Bechtel radio (1845-1929), the wealthy owner of a flour mill and deacon of the Mennonite Church of Bally, and his wife Susanna " Susan " Funk, born Clemmer ( 1845-1913 ). Their ancestors were themselves emigrants from Germany, the end of the 18th century settled in Bally. Annie was the youngest of six children.

After the School in West Chester, Pennsylvania visiting radio graduated from the Mennonite school in Northfield (Massachusetts ). After graduating radio began in the ghettos of Chattanooga (Tennessee ) and Paterson (New Jersey) to work, but always dreamed of being a missionary.

This was in 1906 a reality in December when it was sent as the first female Mennonite missionary to India. In Janjgir - Champa, they should work in the coming years, where they have a school for 17 girls was opened in July 1907 she also taught. They also learned Hindi.

On the night of 15 April 1912, she was lying in bed when the collision occurred with the iceberg. Appreciation

In memory of her school in India, which she had founded was renamed Annie Funk Memorial School. The attached at the school plaque honors Annie C.
