Annopol

Annopol [ annɔpɔl ] is a town of 2,700 inhabitants in the powiat in Poland Kraśnicki, Lublin Province (Polish WojewĂłdztwo Lublin ). It is located near the mouth of Sanna in the Vistula.

History

The town was from the village Rachow which the gentry families Rachowski, Czyżowski, Morsztyn and from the mid-18th century, the Tymiński family belonged in the 16th and 17th centuries.

1761 was the place the town right by the Polish King August III. The owner of the place Rachow, Antoni Jabłonowski, then named the place after his late wife Anna. It stands for Anno Anna and pol comes from the Greek polis for city. The image of Anna is immortalized in the coat of arms of the town.

In the third partition of Poland in 1795, the city came to Austria, from 1815 it belonged to the Kingdom of Poland. 1869 lost the place a city charter.

On November 3, 1943, a camp for 630 Jews was established. In the massacre of Borów the area around the village was destroyed Borów on 2 February 1944 by German military units, over 900 inhabitants murdered.
