Annus horribilis

Annus horribilis (Latin for horrible year ), known as personal rating of 1992 by Queen Elizabeth II, is an ironic allusion to the phrase annus mirabilis.

Queen Elizabeth II

The annus horribilis of speech ( annus horribilis ) was born on 24 November 1992 used by Queen Elizabeth II in the Guildhall on the occasion of a speech for her 40th Jubilee. The closest reference concerned the fire at Windsor Castle four days earlier in November 1992, in which the castle was severely damaged and several works of art were irretrievably lost.

But there were other reasons for saying:

  • In March of this year, Elizabeth's second son Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson separated.
  • Later in the year, " topless " photos of Sarah, which she showed with her then boyfriend John Bryan, published.
  • In April, the divorce of Elizabeth's daughter Anne Mark Phillips became final.
  • And finally, repeatedly caused messages about the deep crisis marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles for negative headlines.
