Ans van Gerwen

Ans van Gerwen ( born January 17, 1951 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch gymnast. Van Gerwen was in the first half of the 1970s, the most successful gymnast of their country. Throughout her career she was four times champion in heptathlon in 1972 and 1973, she also won all apparatus finals.

Internationally, it drew attention to himself during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Following the success of the Dutch team that placed ninth, she struggled in the individual all-around rank 19 So she was the highest-ranked participant from Western Europe.

Van Gerwen won for her performance in 1972 the first ever Pahud de Mortanges price, with the most remarkable achievements of a Dutch athlete will be awarded at the Olympic Games. In the same year she was ever elected in the Netherlands as the first gymnast Athlete of the Year.

In 1973 she married the Turner Cor Smulders. Together with him, they opened a restaurant in Aarle- Rixtel. In 2006, the restaurant was sold and Van Gerwen married Lambert van de Velden.
