ANTEL

ANTEL ( Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones ) is a state-owned telecommunications company with headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay.

ANTEL was founded in 1974. The telecommunication network was liberalized in 2001, only long distance domestic calls remain under state monopoly. The company also has a presence on the mobile phone and Internet market. In both there is the market leader in Uruguay.

The tallest building in Uruguay, the Torre Antel, belongs to the company. It is 160 meters high and has 35 floors.
