Antilia (building)

Antilia is the largest and most expensive " detached house" in the world. This high-rise is in Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The Antilia building is owned by the richest people of India, the billionaire petrochemical entrepreneur Mukesh Ambani. The building is named after the mythical island of Antilia. Ambani is not indented, despite long years of construction and the high cost of construction after the completion of the house in 2011.

The building was inaugurated in November 2010. The house is 173 meters high and has 27 floors with a special ceiling height; a normal skyscraper of this amount would have between 40 and 50 floors.

Design

It was designed by the architectural firm Perkins and Will from Chicago. The architecture of the building is inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

The idea for the house came Ambani's wife Nita During a 2005 visit to the " Mandarin Oriental New York." The view from the 1,300 m² spa area on the 35th floor of Central Park in combination with the modern Asian interior impressed her so much that she commissioned the construction of Antilia, the same companies that were responsible for the design of the hotel: the Chicago-based architectural firm Perkins & Will and the interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates ( with 13 worldwide offices ). The construction of the construction company Leighton Holdings and later from another company was started continues.

Construction costs

According to a spokesman for Ambani's construction costs are 50 to 70 million U.S. dollars.

Many media outlets had reported that the house will be the first residential building in the world that has cost one billion U.S. dollars, the most expensive private house in the world would be; an article quoted the sum of 2 billion, it is questionable whether this really dollars are meant. A comparison with the currently world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, whose construction costs are estimated at 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, suggests that the cost of Antilia were incorrectly distributed, or rupees and U.S. dollars were swapped.

Building Description

The Ambani family with their three children are a living area of approximately 37,000 square meters. This is more than the area of the castle of Versailles.

The actual core of the Ambani family apartment is located on the top four floors. Mukesh Ambani's mother Kokilaben Ambani lives in the house. The family are 600 employed full-time equivalents are on staff available who live partly in the building.

From the lobby, a wide double staircase leads down into the large ballroom with stage, which has the height of two normal floors and the ceiling is hung all over with crystal chandeliers. There is also a large kitchen, which is the same size as the ballroom and can supply hundreds of guests.

A creative basic element in the construction of the building was the consideration of the Indian Vastu Vidya principle. It should be positively influenced by the building by strategically placing materials, rooms and objects of the energy flow. The interior is worn considerably Indian trains and mostly from India. Even to the materials in the different floors should not be repeated.

So far, the Ambani lived in a 22 - story skyscraper ( Sea Wind ), in the transformation they had invested several years in order to tailor it to their individual housing requirements.

Location

The building stands on the Cumballa Hill on a 4532 m² plot of land in Altamount Road ( officially called the street SK Barodawalla Marg ), one of the ten most expensive streets in the world, in an upscale residential area in South Mumbai.
