Antinori#Tignanello

The Tignanello is a red wine from Tuscany. He is considered a pioneer of the so-called " Super - Tuscans ", wines of the highest price category. Contrary to the opinion of many of the Tignanello is not a classic Chianti and therefore does not bear the seal of the famous " Gallo Nero ".

Development

In the early 1970s, the Marchesi Antinori experimented in the core zone of Chianti with the classic Chianti grape of Sangiovese and waived the first time on the then still prescribed for the Chianti Classico white wine share. Since this did not meet the rules for Italian quality wines (DOC), the very high quality wine could only be offered as a Vino da Tavola, in the lowest quality level.

The success was yet sensational, especially the Marchesi also use barriques, which was completely unknown in Italy at that time. Beginning in 1975, then French grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were integrated into the blend (80 % Sangiovese, 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 5 % Cabernet Franc).

The Tignanello was, together with the Sassicaia, the start of the modernization of the Italian winemaking, especially in Tuscany and has found many imitators. Even today, Antinori dodging with the Tignanello ( and other top wines ) of the Regulations of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico and marketed this as a top wine IGT, ie just outside the classification of the Chianti Classico DOCG.

Location

The wine is produced exclusively from grapes of the 47.116 acre single vineyard Tignanello, which is 350 to 400 meters above sea level, with south-west orientation on calcareous soil. The vineyard is owned by the estate of Santa Cristina Antinori family.
