Antoine and Colette is a French short movie by François Truffaut from the year 1962. He is the second film by Truffaut's Antoine Doinel cycle and part of the international episode movie love with twenty.
Action
Antoine and Colette Antoine Doinel shows as a 17- year-old who worked at Philips in the record production. He lives alone in a room at the Place Clichy, where he spends his time mainly with listening to classical music. He often meets with René, his school friend kissed you and they beat him to attend concerts and musicological lectures.
In a Berlioz concert he sees Colette, a high school student, falls in love with her. Colette is about as old as Antoine, but has - unlike the latter - a warm, supportive family, in which she lives. Antoine developed a strong friendship with Colette quickly and also to their parents who treat him soon as part of the family.
Colette's feelings for Antoine are initially ambivalent, and to be their closer, he moves into an apartment that is of its opposite. Although she treats him more friendly, it will gradually clear that she does not love him. Furthermore he is unhappy and wants to see not initially, but takes an invitation to dinner at her parents. This treat him more like a son and would like to see probably a romantic relationship between the two teenagers.
All hopes dashed when another man rings the apartment to pick Colette. Her parents and Antoine remain helpless in front of the television.
Background
Truffaut had in 1962 just finished working on Jules and Jim, as he was approached by producer Pierre Roustang for his episodic film project love with twenty. He helped select the directors Shintarô Ishihara, Marcel Ophüls, Renzo Rossellini and Andrzej Wajda, which should also be involved in the project. Antoine and Colette is a largely autobiographical work that is based on the infatuation of the 17- year-old Truffaut by an unusual beauty named Lilliane Latvin. Truffaut met Latvin at the Cinémathèque Française and gave his place to a welder to move to Paris and to be close to her. As Antoine he took an apartment across from hers, so that he could observe all their activities.
