Antoine Duprat

Antoine Duprat (* January 17, 1463 in Issoire, † July 9, 1535 on Chateau de Nantouillet at Meaux ) was a French cardinal and chancellor of France.

Duprat was the first president of the Parliament of Paris, as the Duchess of Angoulême him in 1507 the education of her son, the future King Francis I transferred. After his accession to the throne in 1515 appointed Chancellor, he joined in 1516 the Concordat of Bologna with Pope Leo X from which sacrificed the Gallican liberties and surrendered the clergy at the mercy of the king. The hatred against Duprat was increased by the high taxes, he in order to cover the costs of the war, the church imposed. Nevertheless, he retained the favor of the king and his mother, who was regent during his captivity 1525-26. Since he had entered after the death of his wife in holy orders, he was appointed Archbishop of Sens ( Yonne) and in 1527 a cardinal with the title of Santa Anastasia church. He led the strict penal edicts against the followers of the Reformation in France. 1534 he applied for the election to the papacy, but to no avail. (See the biography of the hands of his descendants Marquis D. (par. 1857). )

He was buried in the cathedral of Sens, after he had died at Chateau de Nantouillet at Meaux.
