Antoine Lahad

Antoine Lahad (* 1927 in Al Qattara, Lebanon ) from 1984 until its collapse after the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, the leader of the South Lebanon Army (SLA )

He was born in 1927 into a Catholic Lebanese family. In 1952 he finished the military academy.

General Lahad was a retired senior officer in the Lebanese Army and was appointed in 1984 at the request of former President Camille Chamoun commander of the SLA after Saad Haddad died. As commander, he fought as an ally of Israel in southern Lebanon against the Syrian army and Hezbollah.

1988 tried the Lebanese Soha Bechara assassinate Lahad. While Lahad survived with serious injuries, the assassin of many celebrated inside and outside Lebanon as a heroine.

At the time of the collapse of the SLA Lahad was with his family in Paris. He returns back to Israel first and the French authorities refused him permission to live in France. He lived a few years in Tel Aviv, where he led a Lebanese restaurant.
