Antoine-Marin Lemierre

Antoine -Marin Lemierre ( born January 12, 1733 in Paris, † July 4, 1793 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye ) was a French dramatist.

Life and work

Lemierre came from very humble background and he had to make an early age, even for his livelihood. He was secretary of the finance officer André Dupin and this encouraged him in his first attempts at writing and was it also a patron.

1758 could Lemierre with his play " Hypermestra " successful debut. However, many of his plays were more or less well-known works edits. His " Artaxerce " is modeled on the eponymous work by Pietro Metastasio and his " Peinture " is considered a copy of François -Marie de Marsy " Pictura ". His Guillaume Tell is reflected in Theodor Fontane's novel Before the Storm.

His plays have been successful, if not of life and his audience loved him for it. 1780 elected to the Académie française Lemierre the successor of the late Charles Batteux esthetician ( fauteuil 37).

At the age of sixty years, Antoine -Marin Lemierre died on July 4, 1793 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye and found his final resting place.
