Anton Depauly

Anton Felix Depauly ( born June 7, 1798 in Mies, today: Stríbro, district of Plzeň, † April 27, 1866 ) was a Bohemian painter acting in Austria.

As the son of the Parish Archivist Johann Depauly and Elisabetha nee Schmid, born Anton Felix was seventeen years old after his father's death at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, probably with the assistance of his uncle, a businessman in Stríbro. After ten years of studies ( drawing and historical painting ) he married and started a family in Vienna ( with several children ). He was taken to the residence as a historical and portrait painter.

However, approximately in the 1840s, he left the city and returned to his relatives in his native town, where he still worked as a portrait painter.

His work in Vienna is - not yet documented - up to 13 composers portraits in the collections of the Musikverein; the subsequent decades of his life in Bohemia, where already other four oil paintings were registered by him, also still need further research.

Joseph Sonnleithner ( from the famous Viennese family) gave for his later sold to the Society of Music Lovers Portrait Gallery a portrait of Franz Schubert in order that shows this without glasses.
