Antón García Abril

Antón García Abril ( born May 19, 1933, Teruel ) is a Spanish composer and music educator.

Life and work

García Abril, born in 1933 in Teruel, studied from 1952 to 1955 at the Conservatory of Madrid at Julio Gomez and Francisco Cales and then at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena At Vito Frazzi composition, with Paul van Kempen orchestral conducting and Angelo Francesco Lavagnino film music. From 1964 he continued his studies at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi.

With Luis de Pablo and Cristobal Halffter Spain, he presented at the 39th International Festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music. From 1974 to 2003 he held a chair of composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Real Madrid. In 1982 he became a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid, 1995 corresponding member of the Academia de Bellas Artes de Nobles y San Luis de Zaragoza.

In addition to opera, several ballets, orchestral works, choral and chamber music García Abril composed numerous film scores, particularly on films by Mario Camus and Pilar Miro. For his work he has received numerous awards, including the Premio Nacional de Música (1993 ), several awards Sociedad General de Autores y the y Editores de la Asociación Intérpretes y Ejecutantes and the Culture Prize of the city of Madrid (2007).
