Anton Hykisch

Anton Hykisch ( born February 23, 1932 in Banská Stiavnica ) is a Slovak author. He was also a member and ambassador of the country.

Life

He studied in Bratislava and then worked as an engineer. Hykisch himself to writing and turned to one of the designated generation as of 1956 writers who differed from socialist realism and socially critical approaches adopted. A first publication took place in 1961 ( Sen vchádza do stanice, German Dream enters the station). Between 1962 and 1969 he worked as an editor for the Slovak Radio. After the suppression of the Prague Spring in 1968 he lost his job and was not allowed to publish a number of years. He worked in the library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and other institutions. Since 1988, he worked in a publishing house and was most recently Head of Publishing.

Since 1977 he was able to publish again. In this year he published the historical novel Cas majstrov (The time of the Masters (1977 ) ), followed by Vzťahy ( relations (1978 ) ), Dobre mozog utajený (Good concealed by the brain (1979)), Túžba ( The Longing (1980)) and again a historical novel with Milujte kráľovnú ( Long Live the Queen (1984 ) ), and leto Atómové (Atom summer (1988)) and Obrana tajomstiev ( the defense of Secrets (1990))

After the political change he was member of the 1990-1992 National Council of the Slovak Republic for the Christilich Democratic Movement. After that, he was his country's ambassador to 1997 in Canada. After his return, he again published several books, including one about the life and reign of Maria Theresa and memories of the political upheaval from 1990 to 1992.

In all, the work of prose, essays, material and books, screenplays and radio plays. There is also a drama and a children's book. Some of his works have been translated into several languages ​​including the German.
