Anton of Stolberg-Wernigerode

Anton Graf zu Stolberg - Wernigerode ( born October 23, 1785 Wernigerode Castle, † February 11, 1854 in Berlin) was a senior and President of the Government in Magdeburg and the Prussian Minister of State.

Life

Count Anton was born the fourth son of the reigning Count Christian Frederick of Stolberg- Wernigerode and Countess Auguste Eleonore of Stolberg- Stolberg and entered 1802 in the Prussian military service. He participated in the wars of liberation and became Lieutenant General and chief of the 27th Landwehr Regiment.

Through the foundation of his father from December 18, 1815 were he and his successors dominion Kreppelhof in Silesia transferred as Spezialfideikommiss and primogeniture. He also inherited from his deceased brother Christopher Alexander in 1831 Carl Friedrich Freiherr von Wylich whose reign Diersfordt near Wesel.

In 1828, Count Anton District in Landshut in Silesia and 1834 President of the Government in Dusseldorf. 1837 he was appointed President of the Prussian province of Upper Saxony and the provincial government of Magdeburg. Here in 1841 he was awarded the honorary citizenship.

1840 he was appointed as a confidant of King Frederick William IV of Prussia to Berlin, where two years later he was appointed Minister of State. As an opponent of the revolution of 1848 he was forced to resign from his position. He was then adjutant-general of the king and 1851 Royal Prussian Chief Treasurer and Minister of the royal house.

Count Anton was buried in the cemetery of the count's family in Wernigerode. The tomb was designed by Friedrich August Stiller.
