Antoni Brodowski

Antoni Brodowski ( * before December 26, 1784 in Warsaw, † March 31, 1832 ) was a Polish painter of classicism.

He came to Paris in 1805 as a private tutor of the children of Tadeusz Mostowski and remained until 1808. 1809 he again came to Paris on a scholarship from the Warsaw government. He studied in Paris under Jacques -Louis David and François Gérard. 1814 returned to Warsaw and was employed as a civil servant. In 1819 he was awarded a gold medal for the painting " Saul's anger against David " and appointed professor of drawing and painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Warsaw.

He dealt mainly with portraiture. He also created mythological and religious compositions, such as " Oedipus and Antigone ", " Paris in the Phrygian cap "
