Antoni Chruściel

Antoni Chruściel ( [ antɔɲi xruɕt͡ɕel ], born 16 June 1895 in Gniewczyna Łańcucka, today the Subcarpathian Voivodeship; † November 30, 1960 in Washington, DC, USA ) with the code name " Monter " and " Nurt ", was commander of the area of Warsaw Polish home Army ( Armia Krajowa or AK) and commander of the Warsaw uprising.

He oversaw 50,000 soldiers. With the failure of the uprising, he clashed with 9,000 soldiers in German captivity. After German prisoner of war he went to the British and then American exile after the Communist government of Poland but knew his citizenship. In 2004, the mortal remains of him and his wife were transferred to the Warsaw Powązki cemetery on the occasion of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.
