Antoni Wiwulski

Antoni Wiwulski ( Lithuanian: Antanas Vivulskis, born February 20, 1877 in Tot'ma in Vologda in the Russian Empire; † January 10, 1919 in Vilnius, Lithuania ) was a Polish- Lithuanian architect and sculptor.

Training

Wiwulski visited two of the most prestigious schools of architects of the time.

Among his better known works include:

  • The monument to Jogaila after the Battle of Tannenberg in Krakow
  • The Chapel of Siluva, Lithuania
  • The three crosses on the hill of three crosses in Vilnius
  • The plan of a Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Vilnius

During the construction of the latter church, which was begun in 1913, first came to Lithuania steel concrete. Wiwulski was excited about the possibilities of this newly-discovered construction material and designed a giant church, whose dome was a gigantic, stylized figure of the Creator sit. After Wiwulskis death on 10 January 1919, the work was discontinued, however.
