Antonio Goicoechea

Antonio Goicoechea y Cosculluela ( born January 21, 1876 in Barcelona, † February 1, 1953 in Madrid ) was a Spanish politician and monarchist lawyer.

Life

He was a lawyer by profession and led the authoritarian wing of the young conservatives who supported the policy of Antonio Maura Montaner. In his cabinet he was from April to July 1919 Minister of Interior.

He assisted in the 1920s, the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera. During the Second Republic, he was head of the Acción Nacional. He supported the coup led by José Sanjurjo. In the 1930s he founded the monarchist Renovación Española, in the mainly followers of King Alfonso XIII. collected. He was a member of a delegation that asked in 1934 by Benito Mussolini support against the Republic. Later he organized financial support for the Falange. In 1936 he procured in Italy weapons for the General Emilio Mola. He welcomed 1937, the political agreement of rights and was entrusted with the reorganization of the Spanish banking system.

After the Spanish Civil War, he was chief of several Spanish banks. 1938 to 1950 he was president of the Bank of Spain, Banco Exterior de España, the mortgage bank and the industry Credit Bank. 1936-1953 President of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in Madrid. In 1943, together with other lawyers in Parliament he signed a letter to Francisco Franco with the request for restoration of the monarchy.
