Antonio Maceda

Antonio Maceda Francés ( born May 16, 1957 in Sagunto ) is a former Spanish footballer.

Playing career

Maceda began his career in 1974 with Sporting Gijon. The Asturiern he remained until 1985, before joining the Royal Real Madrid. During his time in Madrid, he won three times in a row, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Super Cup once. Internationally, he won the UEFA Cup with the Brussels residents in 1986. In the second final match in Berlin against 1 FC Köln played by Maceda. He finished his career in 1988.

Internationally, he played 36 times for Spain, scoring eight goals. He participated in the Soccer World Cup 1982 on home soil in part ( excreted in the second group stage ). In addition, he participated in the European Football Championship 1984 in part in France, where he became vice European champion with the Spanish. With the FIFA World Cup in Mexico in 1986 he resigned from Spain in the quarterfinals.

Known to the German public, he was by his headed goal in the 90th minute in their final group game at Parc des Princes stadium in the European Championship in 1984, which meant the withdrawal of the German team. His second goal he scored in the 1-1 semi-final against Denmark, which underlined his scoring prowess as a sweeper.
