Antonio María Barbieri

Antonio María Cardinal Barbieri, OFM Cap ( born October 12, 1892 in Montevideo, Uruguay; † July 6, 1979 ibid ) was Archbishop of Montevideo.

Life

Antonio María Barbieri resigned after his school days in the Capuchin Order in Rome and studied the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 17 December 1921, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a teacher and principal at several schools of the Capuchins in Argentina. For several years he took over as Guardian and Provincial also true leadership roles in his order.

1936 Pope Pius XI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Macra and coadjutor of the Archdiocese of Montevideo. He received his episcopal consecration on November 8, 1936, the Apostolic Nuncio of Argentina, Archbishop Filippo Cortesi.

In 1940, Antonio Maria Barbieri Archbishop of Montevideo. In 1953 he received the title of Assistant at the Pontifical Throne. Pope John XXIII. took him on 15 December 1958 as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Crisogono to the College of Cardinals. In the years 1962-1965 Antonio María Barbieri took part in the Second Vatican Council. The management of the Archdiocese of Montevideo he put 1976 for reasons of age.

Antonio María Barbieri died on July 6, 1979 in Montevideo and was buried in the local cathedral.
