António Teixeira

António Teixeira ( born May 14, 1707 Lisbon, † after 1776) was a Portuguese composer and harpsichordist.

Life

António Teixeira spent thanks to a grant by King John V in 1717 twelve years of study in Rome. Musical studies he made at this time at Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni

On June 11, 1728 Teixeira was appointed Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Lisbon.

The music biographer José Mazza confirmed that Teixeira has composed seven operas. These were held in the form of singing games with partly spoken texts, they created 1733-1739 and ( Upper Town ) Lisbon were performed in the theater of Bairro Alto. From Teixeira comes the first comic opera of a Portuguese composer. For the local aristocracy, he composed many festive cantatas.

Teixeira's sacred music, located mostly in the archives of Lisbon Cathedral. His best-known work today is a 20 -voice Te Deum of 1734th
