Antonio Veracini

Antonio Veracini (* January 17, 1659 in Florence, † October 26, 1733 ) was an Italian violinist and composer of the Baroque.

Life

Antonio Veracini was a pupil of his father Francesco di Nicolo Veracini (1638-1720), who introduced him at the Tuscan court. In 1682 he entered the service of the Grand Duchess of Tuscany, Vittoria delle Rovere and retained this position until her death in the year 1694th He spent his almost entire life in his native city, he performed occasionally at the court of the Grand Duke, but above all, he led the family's Violin School, which he took over in 1708 after his father's death. When in 1699 his best pupil, his nephew Francesco Maria Veracini, traveled with his grandfather to Rome, he led the fortunes of Veracini school on their own. The school was located in a house in the Via di Pallazuolo, a building that her father had inherited. Antonio Veracini was one of the most respected violinists of his time.

Three trips are known, he twice visited Rome, where he met Arcangelo Corelli, whose portrait was in Veracini's possession. 1720, he was staying for a shorter period in Vienna, however, was as shown in documents, every Easter in Florence, where a count of the parishioners took place.

In addition to the published chamber music all of his works listed as missing, including the music for the four known oratorios, which he composed for various churches. Owned by the family was a well-stocked collection of instruments, including many violins from the Amati family and of Jacob Stainer.
