Antun Sorkočević

Antun Sorkočević (also Antonio Sorgo; born December 25, 1775 in Ragusa, † February 14, 1841 in Paris) was a Croatian composer, nonfiction author and diplomat.

Sorkočević was trained by his father Luka Sorkočević and studied from 1789 to 1791 in Rome. After that he went as an envoy of the Republic of Ragusa to Paris, where he remained even after the loss of independence of his native city (1808 ). He was here Member of the Academie Celtique, an archaeological society, and among other things published the Memoire sur la langue et le moeurs of peuples slaves.

In addition to four symphonies and overtures five Sorkočević composed two trio sonatas and a piano sonata for four hands, several Psalms, Tantum ergo and two other vocal works.
