Apellicon of Teos

Apellicon of Teos was a politician and book collector from ancient Athens.

Apellicon had probably 89/88 BC in his hometown held the office of moneyer and later joined the tyrant Athenion to. He became the owner of a significant collection of books, which included manuscripts of Aristotle His notoriety. According to tradition, he had these acquired by the descendants of Neleus ( the nephew of Theophrastus ) in skepticism, but to doubt this story. Apellicon worked as editor of Aristotle's works, but this was incorrect in parts. After the death of Apellicon and the conquest of Athens by Sulla in 86 BC had this move in the library and bring to Rome, where she became the basis for the processing of Tyrannion and the Aristotle edition of Andronicus of Rhodes.
