Apocheima hispidaria

Yellow sensor thick body tensioner ( Apocheima hispidaria )

The yellow sensor thick- body clamps ( Apocheima hispidaria ) is a butterfly of the family of the tensioner.

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of up to 35 mm in males. The females are almost wingless. The males have a nondescript, brown and white drawing. Characteristic are the strikingly large, highly combed sensors which are by their yellow color in sharp contrast to the rest of the animal. The wingless females have hairy legs in contrast to the very similar females of the snow tensioner.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the yellow sensor thick body tensioner extends from Spain to Central Europe to Russia. The northern site boundary runs through the south of Sweden. On the Mediterranean islands, the species is not represented. In the south, the species is found in the Balkan countries, except Greece to the Black Sea.

The species inhabited forested areas in the plane and preferred oaks. In addition, it is also found in urban marginal areas with gardens, orchards, hedges and deciduous forest residues. But some places it penetrates even into middle mountain regions.

Biology

The caterpillars were detected, among others, the following plants: common oak (Quercus robur ), ear - willow ( Salix aurita ), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus ), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and apple tree (Malus domestica). The newly hatched butterfly rest on tree trunks on the day and are active only at night, while they also come to light. Older animals will stay in the treetops. The females hatch usually in the early afternoon and climb soon after in higher Astregionen. There, they entice with pheromones to the male. Shortly after mating, oviposition takes place. The moths fly from mid-March to mid-May, in Baden- Württemberg, the flight time begins in the second half of February. The caterpillar develop from May to July.

Endangering

The yellow sensor Dick Spanner body is not at risk in Germany.
