Apollinaire de Kontski

Apolinary Kątski (* October 23, 1825 in Warsaw, † June 29, 1879 ) was a Polish violinist, composer and educator.

Life

Kątski came from a musical family. His brother Stanisław was also a violinist, his brothers Antoni and pianist Karol. His sister Wanda was gifted musically. At the age of four he began under the supervision of his father Grzegorz learning to play violin. At the age of five he was at the court of the Czar in St. Petersburg, the violin concerto by Pierre Rode ago.

The years 1836-1839 Kątski spent in Paris as a pupil of Niccolo Paganini. Together with his brothers and sister Wanda, he visited numerous cities in Europe with concerts. In 1837 he had appeared in London as part of the coronation of Queen Victoria. In 1849 he appeared in Krakow, 1850 in Warsaw. Three years later he was promoted to soloist at the Court Theatre in Saint Petersburg - as the successor of Henri Vieuxtemps.

Kątski also dealt with chamber music - along with Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein, Teodor Leszetycki and Alexander Sergeyevich Dargomyzhsky. At the end of the 1850s he returned to Warsaw. On January 26, 1861 his music institute was inaugurated in Warsaw, where he became a director and took over the management of the violin class.
