Aponogeton boivinianus

The Boivins Wasserähre ( Aponogeton boivinianus ) is an amphibious plant from the family of water corn plants.

Description

This herbaceous perennial plant forms a tuber. The leaves are ribbon-shaped and grow out of a rosette. They are very delicate and curled at the edges. The leaf surface is dark green. Your plant height is 40 to 70 centimeters. The plant has its natural habitat in the north of Madagascar.

Hunting and

As a whole range of water spikes is offered commercially for planting aquarium also this plant. This Wasserährenart already heard, however, to the more demanding aquarium plants and the largest species that is cultivated in the aquarium. It requires, among other things, a rest period in which the tuber to regenerate. It also grows better if the water has a strong current. The light requirement of the plant is medium to high. It requires water temperatures 22 to 25 degrees Celsius. Boivins Wasserähre also has a high carbon dioxide requirement and is therefore a carbon dioxide fertilization up to 20 milligrams per liter dependent. It is suitable for planting in the aquarium of the background and the middle zone and can also be used as a specimen plant. Due to the size of the aquarium, where it is maintained, should be very spacious and large.

As an offspring of the plant is so far succeeded only partially, it is still reliant on tubers imported from natural stocks of Madagascar. The future attitude in the aquarium is therefore to be questioned.
